I was invited to join a small team at Aphelio, working as a Level Designer and 3D Generalist alongside a number of concept artists. The experience with other artists was important for developing the 3D skills I had gained during my degree.

Aphelio was working on a HTML5 game engine which works cross-platform: browser, mobile and desktop. To start with though, we were working on browser based game titled 'Soul Prey', and all assets had to be kept low poly. It was my job to take the drawings and turn them into a world we could play within – given the mechanics – whilst also giving feedback to the lead artist. I had the opportunity to work with a number of very talented artists and learnt a great deal about the difficulties and benefits of working in a large team .

When I joined the team, the game was still in the very early concept stages and I was given opportunities during this placement to suggest ways to help develop mechanics and use the environment to further game narrative. I worked on a number of environment concepts and assets to fill them. I have put a range of examples from pieces I worked on/

Unfortunately, just as full production was about to begin, Aphelio lost it's funding and lead programmer. Thus, game development ceased. AphelioLtd has since closed down as a company.
